Frequently Asked Questions

REFLEXOLOGY AND REFLEX THERAPY (Please scroll down for information on Tibetan Cranial and Ear Candling)

Where will my reflexology  and reflex therapy session take place?
Your reflexology session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax and aromatherapy is utilized with your permission. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.

Must I be undressed?
No, reflexology and reflex therapy is performed with the client clothed; however, you will want to wear pants and a top that you can easily roll up to your knees and your elbows.

What will the reflexology and reflex therapy session feel like?
A reflexology and reflex therapy session is typically very relaxing.  The feet, hands and face are areas where alternating pressure is used.  When reflexology is applied to the ears or reflex therapy is applied to the face, often an area will be held.  As your body becomes relaxed, pressure can gradually be increased. Often, a light lotion and aromatherapy oil is used.  You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken and so that the pressure can be decreased. Reflexology and reflex therapy is most effective when your body is not resisting.

What should I do during the reflexology and reflex therapy session?
Prior to the session, feel free to ask me any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. It is also very helpful to be hydrated and to have eaten at least an hour or more beforehand.  During the reflexology and reflex therapy session, make yourself comfortable. Many people just close their eyes, breathe deeply and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.

How will I feel after the reflexology and reflex therapy session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Sometimes there can be an experience of mild flu like symptoms or similar aches up to a day or two later, which is typically indicative of a release of toxins.  Since toxins are released during a session, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your reflexology and reflex therapy session.

What are the benefits of reflexology and reflex therapy?
Reflexology and reflex therapy can help release chronic tension and pain, improve circulation, provide nerve stimulation, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured areas, boost the immune system, bring nutrients to the cells, elicit a relaxation response, improve recovery, allow healing to occur, and reduce blood pressure. Reflexology and reflex therapy are also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

Are there any medical conditions that would make reflexology and reflex therapy inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, I will have you fill out a health assessment form and ask general health questions. It is very important that you inform me of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is  advised that you receive a written recommendation for reflexology and reflex therapy prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.

TC is an ancient healing tradition from the Himalayan highlands designed to restore our inherent capacity for self-healing.

What happens during a TC session?

The recipient reclines on a TC table especially designed for this work.  Comfortable loose clothing without zippers, belts or bra hooks should be worn (exercise and yoga clothing usually work well).  Jewelry and any other metal should be removed.  On the day of the session, please avoid caffeine and any elective medication such as ibuprofen or aspirin.  Please do not eat within an hour before the session.  During the session, there is work on the head and neck, using pulses to help the body achieve an optimal balance.  In addition, both the practitioner and the recipient create and hold a sacred space using a mantra, giving rise to the work's strong spiritual component.  The work concludes with a sealing process followed by a period of quiet relaxation.  This short rest allows the recipient to fully integrate the work as does a short walk immediately after the session.  Because TC supports natural healing processes and balance it is not unusual for improvement to continue days or weeks after a session.  Many people have reported relief from a wide variety of symptoms.  As a result chronic pain and other issues may resolve, and well-being, health and wholeness improve.

Ear Candling (also known as Ear Coning), is a simple, effective method for removing ear wax build-up, fungus, yeast and pollen from within the ear canal. Due to all the intricate crevices in the ear, an unbelievable amount of debris can build up. The process can also regulate sinus pressure, assist with post nasal drip, sinusitis, itchy ears, migraines, some forms of hearing loss, vertigo and restoration of equilibrium.  It is especially beneficial before or after air travel, and with frequent use of items in the ear such as ear buds or hearing aids.

It requires a hollow candle that tapers at one end to fit into the ear. The other end when lighted draws oxygen from the flame and creates a vacuum. This has the effect of pulling out residue and cleansing the sinus cavity.

Ear Candling was a technique used by the ancient Egyptians, Mayans, Indians and Tibetans.

What To Expect During Your Session

You will lie on the massage table on your side. The tapered end of the cone is gently placed in the ear. The cone is made from spiraled strips of cotton with a bit of bee’s wax to help the burning process. The other end of the candle is lit and the heat from the flame creates a vacuum effect helping to draw out the impurities from the ear into the candle. During the treatment, you will receive a light head massage to assist with the removal. Candling will take approximately 12-15 minutes per ear. While the candle is burning down you will normally hear some crackling.
